Happy Birthday, Gita! 💝

For this 100MileMonday post, I’m doing something a little different!! ☺️Today, we are having a Spring100 birthday celebration!! Gita is our oldest Spring100 walker and celebrated her 100th birthday this past Saturday! Do you want to hear something amazing? Gita has already finished her 100 miles for Spring100!! I am so blessed to have Gita a part of this challenge.💕 Her testimony of God’s faithfulness throughout her entire life is such a blessing! Today’s post is dedicated to Gita, a fellow Spring100 walker, encourager, inspiration, and sister in Christ! Happy Birthday, Gita!! 🙋🏼‍♀️🎉 I am excited to share her amazing story shared with me by her dear friend Sheri:

When Gita was a young woman, Russian soldiers invaded her country of Estonia. After she endured and survived many weeks of constant bombing of Tallinn, Estonia’s capital where she lived, Gita and what was left of her family fled the country the evening before Russia invaded. They sailed away on a hospital ship called the Moero. But the next morning, out in the Baltic Sea, the Moero was torpedoed by Russian planes, and sank in about 6 minutes, taking nearly 4,000 people onboard down with it, including her first husband. They had been married only one year. Gita and her younger brother, Erich, managed to jump from the sinking ship into separate large life preservers. Gita’s was filled with other people, but her brother’s had only one other man in it. Erich had dreamed the night before that the ship would be sunk and he would die!
Gita life preserver floated away from the 3 boats that came to rescue survivors. After floating in the freezing water for 4 hours, they were picked up by a German U-boat (submarine) and taken to what was then called Gdansk, Poland. Her brother never showed up at the displaced person’s camp, and she learned from witnesses on another rescue ship that the “young man in a life ring with only two men” had fallen from the knotted rescue line they threw to him, and he had been sucked into the ship’s propeller. Gita was devastated. He was her final family member, except for her grandmother who was still in Estonia. She never saw her grandmother again, either.
Gita wandered from one country to the next with no home, no family, no nation; but God always sustained her with several miracles, pulling her from certain death time after time. Finally, she ended up behind the American lines and when WW2 ended, she met an officer that would become her husband and bring her to America! She had 6 children, got saved, and was part of a group of 5 people that started my church back in 1970. She loves the Lord with all her heart, and still serves Him, baking cookies and cakes as gifts for many people, old and young alike. AND she gardens with the flowers she loves!

Well, CONGRATULATIONS!!👏🏼🎉 We are entering week 12 of the 2021 Spring100 and just about 20 short days away from the LAST DAY to grab your miles for this challenge!! As mentioned above, this 2021 Spring Challenge ends at 11:59pm(cst), June 20th so you still have plenty of time to get those miles. Behind? Grab a walking buddy, find a fun place to walk, and tackle missing miles. YOU CAN DO IT! 🙌🏻 The verse that encouraged my heart this week is Romans 8:37, “IN ALL THINGS we are more than conquerors through HIM that loved us.” How is that for a promise!! Pair that with Philippians 4:13 where it says, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” and you have the perfect motivation to get out and get those miles you need to cross the 100-mile finish line!! So many Spring100ers are already across the finish line and cheering you on!! YOU CAN DO IT. I am praying for each and every one of you this week! Well, we’ve made it through week 10 and are plunging into week 11 of the 2021 Spring100!! 🙌🏻 Spring100 ends on June 20th. We have just 26 days to complete this fun challenge! How was week 10 for you?? As I go through Proverbs this week, Proverbs 4:18 jumped off the page and was the perfect fit for today’s post! “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day”. I am blessed by the truth that as children of the Lord God, our path brightly lit before us! The Lord does not leave us walking in the dark nor does He leave us to be our own guides. In Psalm 48:14 it says, “For this God is our God for ever and ever: He will be our guide even unto death.” And we are told in Job 23:10, “The Lord knows the paths that we take…” He leads us by the hand(Is 41:13) and as we trust in and acknowledge Him, He promises to direct our paths (Proverb 3:5-6). “And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.” Isaiah 30:21! So with a bit of encouragement from God’s Word, who is ready to conquer week 11 of the SPRING100? I am seeing so many cross the finish line and excited to see the rest of you hit that 100-mile goal!! 🙋🏼‍♀️🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏽‍♂️

How was week 9 of the Spring100 for you all??? If my calculations are correct, we have only 33 days left in this challenge! The end is in sight and so many are there waiting to see us cross the finish line! As I go through Hebrews 12 each week, I am reminded of verse 1 where it says “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses”. These witnesses are men and women who have finished the race, who have run with endurance, and left a lasting testimony! These witnesses are not those who have witnessed their own faithfulness or strength in running BUT God’s faithfulness and strength working through them. 1 Corinthians 1:27 puts it so beautifully, “…God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty”. Whether it be Corrie Ten Boom, Eric Liddell, the Apostle Paul, Daniel, King David, Abraham, or Abel- their testimony points us to God’s faithfulness in their lives and HIS strength made perfect in weakness[2 Cor 12:8-10]! I love these verses from Hebrews 11 where it says, “And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions. Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong….”(Heb 11:32-34) As we look to these men and women, we are pointed to the grace and strength of our Lord and Savior. 🙂 By His grace, they fought the good fight, they conquered, they finished the race, and they kept the faith[2 Timothy 4:7-8]!! So, are you ready to conquer week 10 of the Spring100 and the race of life? “I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only.” Ps 71:16!! Let’s press forward in the strength & grace of the Lord!

If you still have all 100 miles to walk, an easy 3.1 miles each day will get you to the finish line on time. Break your walks up into 2 different walks daily to make it a doable and easy challenge!

Well, congratulations to each one of you! 🙌🏻 We have officially made it past the halfway mark for this Spring100 and I’m beginning to see that finish line ahead!! 🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️ How was has the past week of walking/running gone for you?? Keep your eyes set on the prize. 🥇 We are so very close! This week, as we set out to grab our week 9 Spring100 miles and serve the Lord in every area of life, let’s take Micah 6:8 with us! If you haven’t memorized this verse from God’s Word, I urge you to do so. Do justly, love mercy, walk humbly… WALK HUMBLY with thy God! The command to walk humbly always takes my mind to James 4:6 where we are told “But He giveth more grace. Wherefore He saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” and then a few verses later James says, “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up.” I don’t know about you, but I desire that “more grace” that the Lord God gives to the humble. As I walk my miles this week, I am praying that I would be “clothed in humility” and that I would walk humbly with the Lord my God. “Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.” 1 Peter 5:5. May we seek to Do Justly, Love Mercy, and Walk Humbly for week 9 of the 2021 Spring100… HAPPY WALKING Y’ALL! 🙋🏼‍♀️💯

Here we are!!🙌🏻 Week 7 has been accomplished by the grace of God and we’ve entered week 8. This week we will pass the “Halfway Mark” of the 2021 Spring100! This 93-day challenge is halfway over and to each and every one of you who have persevered and pressed forward, conquering one mile at a time, WAY TO GO!! If you are behind, you have plenty of time to catch up. 🙏🏼 And some pretty exciting news… if for some reason, you have not been able to even begin your miles yet(pregnancy, broken bones, sickness, travel, work, etc.) YOU can still make it to the finish line on time! If you have walked zero miles for the Spring100, a simple goal of 2.2 miles each day will get you caught up and to the finish line on time. I can’t wait to see you there. This week, I am meditating on Isaiah 40 as I enjoy my spring100 walks. Verse 29 says, “He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increaseth strength.” and in verse 31 we are told that as we wait upon the Lord we “shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Aren’t you thankful that Lord God gives power to the faint? I sure am!! For those who are feeling spiritually and/or physically faint and weary this week, I am earnestly praying the Lord will renew your strength! As we go through the reading plan, I was blessed by the reminder found in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.” With that blessed truth from God’s Word, let’s go conquer week 8 in the strength of the Lord. Happy Walking/Running y’all! 🙋🏼‍♀️

CONGRATULATIONS to each and every one of you!! We’ve made it through week 6 of Spring100. SO many of you are overcoming huge obstacles (broken toes, pregnancy fatigue, and busy life🙈) to get your miles in and cross the finish line. I praise the Lord for you and am so encouraged by your perseverance! KEEP IT UP. 👏🏼💯🎉

Aren’t you glad that the Lord GOD leads us as we run the race of life? I think one of my favorite reminders, as I walk my Spring100 miles, is how utterly important hiding the Word of God in my heart is. I cannot even really begin to stress the importance of this! I love “night walks” when it’s dark out and the sky is filled to the brim with stars and a bright moon revealing the path before me but have you tried to walk in the darkest of nights without the light? If you are like me, you continually grope in front of you, always unsure and always fearing what may cause you to stumble and break an ankle🙊😉. Psalm 119 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” The Word of God illuminates the path before us!! Just like I shouldn’t try to run through a rugged, thorn-infested mountain trail in the darkest of nights without a headlamp, I should try to run this race set before me or navigate through this “crooked and perverse generation”(Phil 2:15) without the Word of God continually illuminating my path! I once read “The Bible is our road map for living, dying, and living again”. We are strictly warned in Proverbs 14:12 that “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” and then told in Psalm 119:9 exactly how we can keep our way pure as it says, “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.” Remember Psalm 1 as it says, “BLESSED is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly… But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”? Blessed is the man. ☺️ As we enter this next week, let’s take these truths from God’s Word with us and Hid His Word in our Heart. It is the light that will illuminate our path… His Holy inerrant Word is our roadmap to life! And how is this for a promise, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” Perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. Praise The Lord! 🙌🏻 May His Word be our day and night meditation. Happy Walking for week 7 y’all!🙋🏼‍♀️

Yep, I did the weighted challenge also! Using a weighted 20lb exercise bar I walked a mile then very eagerly threw it off and enjoyed another mile free of the cumbersome weight. How light I felt without that bar on my back! And what a fabulous reminder of the command to throw off every weight and the sin which hinders us from running with endurance. 🙌🏻To each of you who submitted photos this week, THANK YOU! I am so excited that we have made our way, by God’s grace, to week 6 of Spring100! To each of you participating in this challenge, WAY TO GO!🙌🏻💯 For those who have finished their 100 miles and are making their way to larger goals, CONGRATULATIONS!! 🎉 If you are right on track with your daily miles, great job!! Your perseverance and consistency will pay off.👏🏼 IF YOU ARE BEHIND, don’t quit!! You have plenty of time to catch up. YOU CAN DO IT! 🙏🏼 I love the above verses from 1 Corinthians 9 that were in our weekly Spring100 Scripture reading and so perfect for this challenge. The exhortation “RUN TO WIN” is encouraging and energizing, isn’t it? As always, I am reminded that as we run this spiritual race set before we are told to throw off the weight and sin which so easily entangles us(Hebrews 12). Weight and sin will prevent us from running with endurance. Just like I wouldn’t set out to win a Marathon with a pack full of heavy cumbersome bricks on my back, I shouldn’t run the race of life with the burden of weight and sin on my back. We are told to throw off these weights and sins and run to win! So, with the beautiful reminder from 1 Corinthians 9, this week I have a fun challenge for you all! 😁🙌🏻 Drum roll please…. It’s time for the The Weighted Walk CHALLENGE!!

The CHALLENGE: This week make it your goal to walk a mile with a little(or a lot- your choice) extra weight just to get the feel of what that extra spiritual weight feels like and what a relief it is to finally take it off. Whether it be hand weights🏋🏼‍♀️, extra-large canned veggies😉, a weighted back-pack, sibling riding piggyback🤷🏼‍♀️, or maybe just your baby on your front-pack! Get creative and SNAP A PICTURE of how you did the weight challenge and send it in for next week’s post letting us know how it went for you!

How did week 4 go for you all?? 🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️🏃🏼Are you all on track and getting your miles in? I love the above “walking” themed verse that found its way to me this week, “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
1 John 1:7. It reminded me of the sweet fellowship we have as brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus our Lord! And the unique fellowship we have right here during this Spring100 Challenge. It’s a special time for believers from across the world to join together and spur each other on in the spiritual race we are on while we also spur each other on toward the physical Spring100 goal of walking/running 100 or more miles over the duration of Spring. So, as we enter week 5 of Spring100, I want to leave each one of you with a goal. A goal to “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up“ 1 Thessalonians 5:11! And as I leave you with that goal I also leave you with a challenge for week 5 of the Spring100. I challenge each of you to find someone to walk a Spring100 mile with and use that time to encourage them in the Lord! So, with this challenge before you, are you ready to go out and conquer week 5 in the strength of the Lord?? LET’S DO IT! 🙌🏻💯

Congratulations on finishing week 3!! 🙌🏻💯 How did it go for you all??😃 I absolutely love the above portion of Romans 13 from our Weekly Spring100 Scripture Reading Plan! I was both encouraged and convicted when I noticed Strife and Envy were included and right up there with rioting, drunkenness, and lust. This reminder took me to James 3:16 where we are told, “For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.”. WOW! We may not be given over to drunkenness or rioting but how often do we find ourselves causing strife/arguments with siblings or perhaps even envying something someone else has/is? James 4:1 reminds us exactly where strife comes from, “From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?” These sins we hold on to, no matter how “small” or “innocent” they may seem, (whether they be envy or strife or lust or -fill in the blank-) are the weights and sins mentioned in Hebrews 12:1 that hold us back from running the race before us with endurance. So, what does God’s Word tell us to do with these sins? Romans 13 tells us to cast them off! And Hebrews 12:1 says “Lay aside” or another translation says “THROW OFF”. As we enter Week 4 of the Spring100 Challenge, I encourage you all to take time during your Spring100 walks to pray that the Lord would show you any weight and sin in your life that may be holding you back from running the spiritual race you are on with endurance! Ask Him to give you the strength to THROW OFF whatever sin and weight may be holding you back. God will give you the grace to do just that! I am praying for each of you as we enter a new week of walking.🙋🏼‍♀️💯 Let’s conquer Week 4 in the strength of the Lord!!
