WEEK 8 MILEAGE FORM

…………………………

“Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not”
2 Corinthians 4:1

Here we are at week 9  of the Spring100!! ?? How was week 8 for you all? As we move forward and enter week 9, we will find many distractions that will threaten to hinder us from meeting our walking/running goals BUT don’t lose heart and don’t give up.  You can do it!! Just like in our physical exercise, we are going to find “distractions” that threaten to hinder us from running with endurance in our spiritual race too!

Distraction:a thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else.
“And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.” 1 Cor 7:35

We are told to run in such a way that we may obtain the prize[1 Cor 9:24]! We are called to run with everything in us to the finish line, keeping our eyes focused on that which is not only our Prize but also our fuel for the race, Jesus Christ[Heb 12:2]! In our race of life, there are two things that will hold us back and we are told to cast them off, one of which is weight! We read in Hebrews 12:1 that we are to LAY ASIDE EVERY WEIGHT [distraction] that hinders us from running the race before us with endurance. “…let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us…” This weight/distraction will hold us back and keep us from running to our fullest potential! Weight can be something that is obviously sinful or something that is completely decent IF used rightly! Weight/Distraction can come in many harmful forms BUT ALSO many harmless forms that we allow to consume us such as the books we read, hobbies,  devices??, social networking, desires you want accomplished in your life, etc.. All can be decent and used rightly BUT when you find they are distracting you from spiritually running with endurance and keeping your eyes set on Jesus Christ, they become weights that holds you back and must be laid aside. I like how John Gill commentary describes a spiritual weight as a “great hinderance in the work and service of God, and therefore to be laid aside; not that they are to be entirely rejected, and not cared for and used, but the heart should not be set upon them, or be over anxious about them”.

“I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:  But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection…”
1 Corinthians 9:26-27

Soooo, I have a challenge for you this week!? Take a backpack and  fill it with 10 pounds of any type of item[full water bottles, canned goods, weighted barbell, a couple of bricks] then walk/run a Spring100 mile with that backpack on. Yes, it sounds crazy but it will be extremely insightful[if you take me up on this challenge, send pictures to prove it ? ]! You will see how quickly a little weight will wear you out and hinder you from walking/running your fastest. I often do this with a 15 pound weighted pole laid across my shoulders. This helps me understand just how much a little weight can really weigh me down and burden me physically. This helps me remember how the same is true with me spiritually! Then when I finally lay that physical weight down, I find I am able to run/walk with much more endurance and stamina. As you walk your Spring100 mile with this weighted backpack on, spend a few minutes praying that the Lord would reveal any sin and spiritual weight/distractions in your life that may be weighing you down and hindering you from setting your focus on Him. Then pray that He would give you the grace  and strength to lay the weight/distraction aside so that you may be able to more fully run with endurance! I am praying for each of you during this next week. ?? May we seek to honor the Lord in our every thought and deed as we run the race before us. Have fun with week 9 y’all!?

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.”
Hebrews 12:1-3

Hmmm. What historical figure would I walk with if I could? ? The person that comes to mind is Susannah Wesley — I’d love to learn her “mom secrets!” She is an inspiration to me!

Good choice, Elisha! I also thought of Sarah Edwards as a godly woman to learn from.

As some have commented above I agree walking a mile with Jesus would be the best.
As to your challenge to walk with a weight – I very often end up carrying a child for a good part of a walk, so I think I can well understand that concept of walking with a weight 🙂

I’d probably choose Amy Carmichael or Sarah from the Bible! Keep up the great work everyone!!! ❤️❤️ “And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:28-31
