Week 10 has been accomplished by God’s grace!! Well done, everyone.πŸ‘πŸΌ We officially have 25 days left in this 2025 Spring100 Walking Challenge! 25 days to grab your remaining miles and finish strong. You got this!! Yes, I know. Many of you are tired. Many of you are just a little behind and having to work extra hard to catch up. But believe me, crossing the Spring100 finish line will be so worth the effort you put in! As I type this, I am reminded of James 1:12, where we are called BLESSED when we endure and reminded of the promised crown of life that awaits us who are in Christ. Whether it be the Spring100 walking challenge or your spiritual race here on earth, keep your eyes on the prize and finish strong. By His grace and for His glory!!! We are almost there… let’s do this!πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ™ŒπŸ» ENJOY week 11!! πŸ’―

Spring100 Weekly Meditation
Blessed is the man who endures

James 1:12 || Week 10

“Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.”
James 1:12

It is not every man who suffers, that is blessed; but he who with patience and constancy goes through all difficulties in the way of duty. Afflictions cannot make us miserable, if it be not our own fault. The tried Christian shall be a crowned one. The crown of life is promised to all who have the love of God reigning in their hearts. Every soul that truly loves God, shall have its trials in this world fully recompensed in that world above, where love is made perfect. The commands of God, and the dealings of his providence, try men’s hearts, and show the dispositions which prevail in them. But nothing sinful in the heart or conduct can be ascribed to God. He is not the author of the dross, though his fiery trial exposes it. Those who lay the blame of sin, either upon their constitution, or upon their condition in the world, or pretend they cannot keep from sinning, wrong God as if he were the author of sin. Afflictions, as sent by God, are designed to draw out our graces, but not our corruptions. The origin of evil and temptation is in our own hearts. Stop the beginnings of sin, or all the evils that follow must be wholly charged upon us. God has no pleasure in the death of men, as he has no hand in their sin; but both sin and misery are owing to themselves. As the sun is the same in nature and influences, though the earth and clouds, often coming between, make it seem to us to vary, so God is unchangeable, and our changes and shadows are not from any changes or alterations in him. What the sun is in nature, God is in grace, providence, and glory; and infinitely more. As every good gift is from God, so particularly our being born again, and all its holy, happy consequences come from him. A true Christian becomes as different a person from what he was before the renewing influences of Divine grace, as if he were formed over again. We should devote all our faculties to God’s service, that we may be a kind of first-fruits of his creatures.-Matthew Henry

Week 9 of the 2025 Spring100 has come to an end, which is incredible!!πŸ˜±πŸ’― We are 60 days through this 92-day challenge. There is just a little over a month left to grab your miles. So many have crossed the finish line and are cheering on fellow participants as they continue their pursuit to run with endurance and finish strong!! You all are doing such a fabulous job pressing toward the goal. DON’T QUIT! “He who runs a race, must never stop short of the end.” Endure to the end!! Spring100 Weekly Meditation
PRESS ON

Philippians 3:12-14 || Week 9

“Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:12-14

This simple dependence and earnestness of soul, were not mentioned as if the apostle had gained the prize, or were already made perfect in the Saviour’s likeness. He forgot the things which were behind, so as not to be content with past labours or present measures of grace. He reached forth, stretched himself forward towards his point; expressions showing great concern to become more and more like unto Christ. He who runs a race, must never stop short of the end, but press forward as fast as he can; so those who have heaven in their view, must still press forward to it, in holy desires and hopes, and constant endeavours. Eternal life is the gift of God, but it is in Christ Jesus; through his hand it must come to us, as it is procured for us by him. There is no getting to heaven as our home, but by Christ as our Way.- Matthew Henry

Week 8 || 100MileMonday

Spring100 Featured Photographer: Caroline Flournoy

WAY TO GO! Week 8 of the 2025 Spring100 Challenge is complete. πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ’― We are getting closer and closer to June 20th!! Those who are still working hard to finish 100 miles strong, don’t give up!! You got this.πŸ™ŒπŸ» After last week’s reminder to RUN TO WIN, this week I have been thinking about not losing heart. It is tempting to grow weary and give up by week 8 of the Spring 100, BUT pressing forward and finishing strong is so rewarding! Perhaps you need a little renewal before you go out and grab your walk/run. A good, healthy breakfast or a quick snack? I am reminded that in our spiritual race, we are told not to lose heart as we are being renewed day by day. One of the ways the Lord renews us is through His Word! “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4. May you find both physical and spiritual renewal to press toward the finish line and finish strong! πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ’―

Spring100 Weekly Meditation
Day by Day

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 || Week 8

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

WITH every new day the life of nature is renewed. As the sun rises again with its light and warmth, the flowers open, and the birds sing, and life is everywhere stirred and strengthened. As we rise from the rest of sleep and partake of our morning food, we feel that we have gathered new strength for the duties of the day. The inner chamber is the standing confession of THE NEED OUR INWARD LIFE HAS OF DAILY RENEWAL TOO. It is only by fresh nourishment from God’s Word, and fresh intercourse with God Himself in prayer, that the vigour of the spiritual life can be maintained and grow. Though our outward man perish, though the burden of sickness or suffering, the strain of work and weariness may exhaust or enfeeble us, the inward man can be renewed day by day.-A.Murray

Day by day and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He whose heart is kind beyond all measure
Gives unto each day what He deems best–
Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.
Lina Sandell

Week 7 || 100MileMonday

Spring100 Featured Photographer: Amanda S.

Fun Stats from week 7:

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ 212,440.30 miles walked to date for the 2025 Spring100
πŸ‘‰πŸΌ 419 Participants have already completed their 100 Mile goal. CONGRATULATIONS!!πŸ₯³

As of today, we are officially HALFWAY through this 92-day challenge!! Many have already crossed the finish line, and I am amazed at how many more are just a few short miles behind. πŸŽ‰πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ Want to know some encouraging news? If you are behind, you still have plenty of time to catch up! Even if you have yet to walk a single mile for this Spring100 season, all it takes is 2 miles a day for the remainder of Spring to cross the 100-mile finish line. You got this!πŸ‘πŸΌ This past week, my mind has gone to the exhilarating exhortation Paul gives to RUN TO WIN. As so many have finished strong and so many are patiently persevering, pressing toward the Spring100 finish line, I am reminded of the race of life and the imperishable crown we are promised. Both our Spring100 race and our spiritual race must be run with a goal in sight. “Our goal is Christ, and everything we do must reflect that aim.” As we cross the halfway mark, enter week 8 of the 2025 Spring 100, and continue to run with endurance in our spiritual race, I pray each of you will keep your sights fixed on the prize and RUN TO WIN! πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ’―

Run To Win

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 || Week 7

“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”
1 Corinthians 9:24-27

β€œPaul uses the image of a race to show the diligence that ought to be employed in running toward the goal of eternal life. He does not run without aim, but with a clear target in viewβ€”he directs his energy and efforts toward the prize. Such should be the case for every believer in their pursuit of holiness and godliness.” John Calvin

“The apostle Paul’s use of the athlete’s metaphor in 1 Corinthians 9:26 reveals that the Christian life is not a casual pursuit but requires careful planning, effort, and perseverance. It is a race to be run with a goal in mind, not a haphazard endeavor.” Charles Hodge

“In the Christian life, as in a race, we must be sure that we are running with a clear objective. Our goal is Christ, and everything we do must reflect that aimβ€”every action, every decision, must be with the purpose of advancing toward that final victory.” Martin Luther

Week 6 || 100MileMonday

Week 6 COMPLETE! Fabulous job, everyone!! πŸ™ŒπŸ»Here we are at the end of April. Hard to believe! Time seems to be flying by. Spring days are filled full for everyone! The School year is coming to an end, events are happening, and life is getting busy!! Perhaps you’re like me and need a little renewed strength to make it to your Spring100 goal and keep up with the tasks at hand.πŸ˜… I was reminded of Isaiah 40:31 this week as I pressed out a mile before the day was over. “RENEWED STRENGTH”… What a promise! We can seek the Lord for renewed physical and spiritual strength, and He promises to give it. By His grace, we can finish the race (Spring 100 and the race of life) strong and with endurance! I pray each one of you is renewed, especially this week, as you look to the Lord and wait upon HIM! πŸ’―πŸ‘πŸΌ

Spring100 Weekly Meditation
Renewed Strength

Isaiah 40:31 || Week 6

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:31

This text speaks of the victory that God’s people shall have, not because of their own strength, but because of the strength He gives them. They shall not faint or grow weary because they wait upon the Lord. It is not in their own power but in His infinite grace that they rise and run.-C.H. Spurgeon

The renewal of strength spoken of here is not merely the recovering of the vigor of the body, but a spiritual renewal that comes from God’s grace. Those who wait upon the Lord are those who humbly depend on His mercy, and they shall experience His sustaining power in their hearts.- John Calvin

In the Old Testament, the psalmist celebrates waiting patiently for the Lord (Psalm 40:1), and Isaiah promises that those β€œwho wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31). Waiting on God is a regular refrain in the life of faith. It is an expression of the healthy heart’s desire: β€œO Lord, we wait for you; your name and remembrance are the desire of our soul” (Isaiah 26:8). And it is an echo of the unparalleled power and grace of God, β€œwho acts for those who wait for him” (Isaiah 64:4).-David Mathis

When the day is long and weary,
When the heart is tired and low,
When the burden seems too heavy,
And the road too steep to go,

I will wait upon the Lord,
For He will make me strong,
He will renew my weary heart,
And help me to carry on.
Annie Johnson Flint

Week 5 || 100MileMonday

Spring100 Featured Photographer: Joanna Klassen

Well, what an exciting moment to make it through week 5!!πŸ˜„ We are well over 1/3rd of the way through this 92-day challenge. The weather is officially warming up for everyone, and the fresh spring air is so invigorating, isn’t it?! β˜ΊοΈπŸƒ As I went out for my walk, I was thinking about the endurance that will be needed for each of us to finish this challenge. My mind instantly went to that one line from Hebrews 12 where it says, “who for the joy that was set before HIM endured…”. Jesus Christ, our triumphant Forerunner, fixed His eyes on the JOY set before Him, and He endured. It was a good reminder for me that JOY fuels endurance! For the Spring100 Challenge, we have the joy of crossing the virtual finish line and celebrating with friends and family across the World. In the spiritual race of life, we have the joy of what we have been given here on earth and that which we are promised for all eternity. I pray you’re given eyes to see the JOYS set before you as you set out to conquer week 6 of the 2025 Spring100 challenge!!πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ’―

Spring100 Weekly Meditation
JOY Fuels Endurance

Nehemiah 8:10 || Week 5

1. β€œThe joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).

Is it not good to belong to a God that makes gladness the pathway to power? Satan is a very gloomy god. But Jesus said, β€œRejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for, behold, your reward is great in heaven” (Luke 6:23). Satan cannot abide the songs of the saints. (Knowing this he fabricates β€œmusical” substitutes which are not the heart-songs of happy people, but the grunts and gasps and screams of people without peace.) I have seen Satan driven out with the songs of hope-filled Christians. And I know that in my own life finding the pace to finish the race means recovering the joy of the Lord again and again. Joy is a great power.

2. β€œWe rejoice in hope of the glory of God” (Romans 5:2).

Some joy comes from what we have nowβ€”forgiveness of sin, fellowship with God, purposeful lives, worship, fellowship, sunrise, sunset, precious friends and family. But the simple and painful fact is β€œour outer nature is wasting away” (2 Corinthians 4:16); we are β€œafflicted in every way… perplexed… persecuted… struck down” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9); and we who have the Spirit β€œgroan inwardly as we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies” (Romans 8:23). Therefore if we’re going to have an unwavering joy in this life, it will have to be β€œin hope.” β€œFor in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience”—and with joy (Romans 8:24f). Therefore β€œRejoice in hope!” (Romans 12:12).

3. β€œHe will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be crying any more, for the former things have passed away…The city has no need of sun or moon to shine upon it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb.” (Revelation 21:4,23).

This is our hope. The glory of God will one day stand forth in a new creation and wipe away all evil and all pain and all sorrow and all fear and all guilt. All obedience and faithfulness will be vindicated and rewarded. All self-denial and suffering in faith will be recompensed 100-fold. β€œHe who did not spare his only Son, but gave him up for us all, will freely give us all things with him” (Romans 8:32) All that God owns will be the inheritance of his children for their everlasting enjoyment.

4. β€œI do not cease [to pray] for the eyes of your hearts to be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of your calling and what is the wealth of the glory of God’s inheritance in the saints” (Ephesians 1:16-18).

The great challenge for us now is to know the glory of our hope. To see it with the eyes of the heart and not just think about it with the mind. This is the great spiritual battle. And this is fought with the television off, on our knees in the Word. God forbid that β€œseeing we would not see and hearing we would not hear.” Let us pray with all our heart that the God who said, β€œLet there be light,” will shine in our heart β€œto give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6).

Summary

Pray for eyes > behold the glory of God > hope in that glory > rejoice in hope > be strong in joy.” John Piper

WAY TO GO!!! πŸ’―πŸ₯³

Way to go!! You’ve just made it through week 4 of the 2025 Spring100. πŸ‘πŸΌ GOOD JOB!πŸ’― I was thinking today about how we all have the end goal of hitting the 100 miles, and with endurance and determination, we have set our eyes on crossing the “finish line.” What a fun reward that will be! It is very much the same in our Christian life! We set our eyes on Christ our Exceedingly great Reward(Gen 15:1) eternity spent with Him. This is our hope! Last week, I was blessed by the reminder that the end product of suffering and endurance is HOPE. Hope in our Risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! because of Him, we can rejoice in hope. Hope here on earth and for all eternity! I pray you all are filled with strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow as you set out to accomplish week 5 of the 2025 Spring100!πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Spring100 Weekly Meditation
Hope in Christ

Romans 12:12 || Week 4

“rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer”
Romans 12:12

Our hope in Christ for the future is the mainspring and the mainstay of our joy down here today. Our hearts will be stirred by thinking often of heaven, for all that we can desire is promised there.

Here we are tired and weary, but over there is the land of rest where the sweat of toil will no longer soak our shirts, and fatigue will be banished forever. To those who are weary and worn, the word rest is full of heaven. We are always in the field of battle; we are so tempted and so molested by foes that we have little or no peace; but in heaven we will enjoy the victory, when the banner shall be unfurled in triumph, and the sword will be sheathed, and we will hear our Captain say, β€œWell done, good and faithful servant.”1

We have suffered bereavement after bereavement, but we are going to the land of the immortal where graves do not exist. Here sin is a constant grief to us, but there we will be perfectly holy, for there will be nothing in heaven to defile it. There are no needs in the furrows of celestial fields. It is a source of deep joy to realize that the wilderness journey of our earthly pilgrimage will end and we will inherit heaven.

But let us make sure that we are not just dreaming about the future and thus forgetting the present. Let all thoughts of the future serve to make us useful in the present. Through the Spirit of God the hope of heaven is the most powerful force for producing virtue; it is a fountain of joyful endeavor; it is the cornerstone of cheerful holiness. Those who have this hope in them go about their work with vigor, for the joy of the Lord is their strength. They fight hard against temptation, for the hope of the next world repels the fiery darts of the adversary. They can work without immediate reward, for they anticipate a reward in the world to come.- C.H. Spurgeon

Endurance is not only the ability to bear a hard thing, but to turn it into glory.- John Calvin

“Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Week 3 || 100MileMonday

Spring100 Featured Photographer: Shayna C.

Week 3 of this 13-week challenge has been accomplished! πŸ’― This Spring100 is filled to the brim with enthusiastic walkers/runners! Each photo and comment received has MADE MY DAY. Thank you! πŸ™ŒπŸ» As I meditate on our Theme Word ENDURANCE for 2025, I was reminded last week that endurance is cultivated by being pushed beyond our current limits and persevering through an arduous, sometimes agonizing, experience of discomfort. Romans 5:3 tells us we can GLORY in this suffering, knowing it will produce endurance, character, and the end product HOPE. And hope does not put us to shame! As we enter week 4, I pray that whatever each of you may face this week, you will be given the strength to glory in it, knowing it will produce in you enduring hope! “We should not expect an easy path in the Christian life, but we should expect the grace to endure every hardship.” . Have fun with week 4 of the 2025 Spring100!!πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Spring100 Weekly Meditation
We Rejoice

Romans 5:1-5 || Week 3

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.  Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,  and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”
Romans 5:1-5

And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: The tribulations of the saints are many and various, through the hatred of the world, the temptations of Satan, their own corruptions; and are the will of their heavenly Father; what Christ has foretold, and they expect; and here particularly design such as are for Christ’s sake, which being supported under, and carried through, they glory in: not that these are desirable in themselves, and to the flesh; but they glory in them as they are for Christ’s sake, and in a good cause; as they are trials of grace, and of use for the exercise of it: and as they are in the exercise of grace, amidst these tribulations, and are comforted under them, and are helped to have regard to the heavenly glory. The ground of which glorying is, that these afflictions are the means of promoting patience, experience, and hope:

knowing this, that tribulation worketh patience: patience is a grace, of which God is the author; it is one of the fruits of the Spirit; the word of God is the means of its being first implanted; and afflictions are the means of promoting it, when they are sanctified; otherwise they produce impatience, murmurings, and repinings; there is great need of patience under them; and, by divine grace, they are the matter and occasion of exercising, and so of increasing it.

And patience experience: As tribulations tend to exercise and increase patience, so patience being exercised and increased, enlarges the saints’ stock and fund of experience; of the love and grace of God communicated to them at such seasons; of his faithfulness in fulfilling his promises; of his power in supporting them; and of their own frailty and weakness; and so are taught humility, thankfulness, and resignation to the will of God:

and experience, hope: hope is a gift of God’s grace, and is implanted in regeneration, but abounds, increases, and becomes more strong and lively by experience of the love, grace, mercy, power, and faithfulness of God.

And hope maketh not ashamed: As a vain hope does, things not answering to expectation, it deceives, and is lost; but the grace of hope is of such a nature, as that it never fails deceives, or disappoints: it neither makes ashamed, nor have persons that have any reason to be ashamed of it; neither of the grace itself, which is a good one; nor of the ground and foundation of it, the person and righteousness of Christ; nor of the object of it, eternal glory- John Gill’s Exposition of the Bible

Β “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?” Matthew 6:25-27

Fun Stats from week 2:

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ 58,152.23 miles walked to date for the 2025 Spring100
πŸ‘‰πŸΌ 3 Participants have already completed their 100 Mile goal. CONGRATULATIONS!!πŸ₯³

Here we are, 11 days into the challenge! Everyone is energized and going strong. πŸ™ŒπŸ» GOOD JOB!! Keep up the motivation. For those just now joining, you have plenty of time to catch up and get on track! πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ If you haven’t joined yet, Registration closes April 8th. NOW is the time to register! As we begin our trek toward the 100-mile goal, endurance will be needed! Life will get busy, sickness may come, weariness will kick in, and the excitement will wane. Endurance is needed to finish this challenge successfully! This reminds me of Hebrews 10:36 it says, “For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.” Whether it be this physical 100-mile challenge or the spiritual race of life, we have need of endurance to make it to the finish line and receive the prize! My prayer for each of you this week is that the Lord would grow in you both physical and spiritual endurance. Let’s conquer week 3 of the 2025 Spring100!! πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ’―

Spring100 Weekly Meditation
Need of Endurance

Hebrews 10:36 || Week 2

“For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.” Hebrews 10:36

“The New Testament makes it clear that, for the Christian, developing endurance is essential. It tells us β€œthe way is hard that leads to life” (Matthew 7:14), and fiery trials most certainly will befall us (1 Peter 4:12). Therefore, it says, β€œyou have need of endurance” (Hebrews 10:36) because β€œby your endurance you will gain your lives” (Luke 21:19). God promises to us the β€œeternal weight of glory” of knowing and being known by Christ (2 Corinthians 4:17; Philippians 3:8). But the promise has a crucial condition: our endurance.

When our heavenly Father determines to give us the gift of endurance, it is one of the most precious, loving gifts we can receive from him. But how is endurance gained? You may know the answer: pain. There’s no way around it. We attain every form of increased stamina only by the discipline of forcing ourselves (or being forced) to push beyond our current limits and persevere through an arduous, sometimes agonizing, experience of discomfort.

So, what package should we expect God’s loving gift of endurance to arrive in? One that β€œseems painful rather than pleasant” (Hebrews 12:11): a season of discipline…

God Treating You as Sons: God’s children in every age need this reminder. That’s why the author pointed his Hebrew readers back to an ancient proverb they all knew, and said, β€œHave you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons?”

My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord,
     nor be weary when reproved by him.
For the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
     and chastises every son whom he receives.
(Hebrews 12:5–6; Proverbs 3:11–12)

Years ago, when the Spirit directed me to Hebrews 12 during a confusing, disorienting, howling spiritual storm, it completely changed my perspective of my affliction.

  • β€œThe Lord disciplines the one he loves” (Hebrews 12:6). This is an expression of God’s love for me.
  • β€œGod is treating you as sons” (Hebrews 12:7). I really am his child.
  • β€œHe disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness” (Hebrews 12:10). There is a long-term, sanctifying, satisfying purpose to this agonizing experience.

This exhortation didn’t immediately quiet my internal storm; it didn’t alleviate all my anguish. But as I began to understand my suffering as the endurance-building discipline of my loving Father, I was able to β€œrejoice in [my] sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance” (Romans 5:3). The God of hope filled me with joy and peace in believing the promise in this exhortation (Romans 15:13). And that hope fueled my resolve to endure.” Jon Bloom || Desiring God

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Here we are!! The first 100MileMonday post of the year. Praise the Lord!!πŸ™ŒπŸ» What a wonderful group we have. Well over 6,000 walkers are registered for this 2025 Spring100, and so many more are still signing up to join the challenge!🀩 I am so grateful to the Lord for another Spring season to walk across the miles with you all. It is my hope and prayer that this year’s challenge physically and spiritually encourages you as you set your eyes on Jesus Christ, The Author and Finisher of our Faith, and run the race of life with ENDURANCE. Endurance is our theme word for 2025! We are commanded to patiently endure trials and hardships for Christ’s glory and our sanctification. Our Christian life will be a constant theme of endurance. We can only run with endurance if we set our eyes on the One who has triumphantly run the race before us. “Jesus has endured the suffering and shame which were due to us. O soul, thou canst never start on the road to heaven unless thou dost look to Him who β€œendured the cross” on thy behalf!”(C.H. Spurgeon). So, are you ready to run with endurance? Let’s set our eyes on the Prize and do this! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸΎπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

ENDURANCE: A bearing or suffering; a continuing under pain or distress without resistance, or without sinking or yielding to the pressure; sufferance; patience. (Webster 1829)

Spring100 Meditation
Eyes always fixed on Christ

Hebrews 12:1-2 || Week 1

HEB 12:1-2

We can have no doubt about the great truths which we believe, for we are compassed about with a cloud of witnesses. The former chapter gives us the names of many of these glorious bearers of testimony, who all by faith achieved great wonders and so bore witness to the truth of God. Having therefore no room for doubt let us throw our whole strength into our high calling, and run with patience having our eyes always fixed upon Him, the beginner and finisher of our faith, who has run the race himself and won the prize, and now sits down on the right hand of the throne of God.- C.H. Spurgeon

a believer should be always looking to Christ, and off of every object, as the word here used signifies. Christ is to be looked unto as “Jesus”, a Saviour, who being appointed and sent by God to be a Saviour, came, and is become the Author of eternal salvation; and to Him only should we look for it: He is able and willing to save; He is a suitable, complete, and only Saviour; and whoever look to Him by faith shall be saved; and He is to be considered, and looked unto, as “the author and finisher of faith”: He is the author or efficient cause of it; all men are by nature without it; it is not in the power of man to believe of himself; it is a work of omnipotence; it is an instance of the exceeding greatness of the power of God; and it is the operation of Christ, by his Spirit; and the increase of it is from Him, ( Luke 17:5 ) and He is the finisher of it; He gives himself, and the blessings of His grace, to His people, to maintain and strengthen it; He prays for it, that it fail not; He carries on the work of faith, and will perform it with power; and brings to, and gives that which is the end of it, eternal life, or the salvation of the soul.-John Gill

But since the Saviour I have known
My rules are all reduced to one;
To keep my Lord, by faith, in view,
This strength supplies and motives too.

I see him lead a suff’ring life,
Patient, amidst reproach and strife;
And from his pattern courage take
To bear, and suffer, for his sake.
John Newton
